"Fake Drama, Cut it " - Rappler CEO Maria Ressa, Butata sa Pahayag ng Kapwa Journalist

While some media personalities are suspecting the arrest of Rappler Chief Executive Officer Maria Ressa due to a cyber libel case, there are some media practitioners who are against Ressa's behavior. One of them is the Veteran Journalist Ninez Cacho-Olivares of the Daily Tribune.

According to Olivares, Ressa should stop her acting. She said a fake drama was made by Ressa.
“Oh, c’mon Maria. Cut the dramatics, please. You are a better journalist to resort to such fake drama, especially as you certainly know you could not have been shocked at all, considering the fact that the warrant of arrest for you was already issued a day before the agents came to arbeen tipped off by other journalists and even court sources of an arrest warrant against you havinrest you. In fact, I would wager that even before the warrant was issued, you would have already g been signed by the judge,” said Olivares in a statement.

Ressa also was not supposed to release a statement saying that the government was behind her case. “Another Palace move to silence you, Maria? Oh, puhleez. Spare us the false indignation! Stop saying the government resorted to legal acrobatics, as well as the ‘pettiness of forcing’ you to spend the night in jail… Government’s way to silence Ressa? What amateurish drama Maria makes. How can this be taken as a move to silence her when Rappler is still functioning and she can write as freely as she wants and she is not being censored?,” added Olivares.

Ressa and his colleagues just want to expressed that the government is pressing them.  “It is clear, however, that Ressa and her staff wanted to make her arrest look like she is again being politically persecuted — and for the bailable crime of libel which journalists know is part of the territory.,” explained Olivares.

Ressa was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation due to a cyber libel case filed by a businessman Wilfredo Keng. Mr. Keng was included in the article of Rappler last 2012, where he was linked to dr*ug sm*uggling and one more crime.

In a statement, Keng disclosed that he talked to Rappler about removing the article. The Rappler promised to delete it but they didn't do anything.

“Rappler, Ressa, and Santos never attempted to obtain my side on the c*rimes they wrongly imputed to me or to fact-check their baseless attacks against my name… In turn, Rappler, likewise through formal and informal channels, repeatedly promised me that they will take down the subject article, but never did. The libelous attacks remain posted on their website until now,” according to Mr. Keng's statement.

A netizen named Bryan Esperanza explained to the public about the case of Rappler Chief Executive Officer.

SA KASO NI MARIA RESSA:

1. The case stemmed from an article posted by Rappler in MAY 2012 against a businessman, Wilfredo Keng, whereby the said article alleged that CJ Corona used an SUV owned by Keng during his impeachment trial.

2. Keng sued not because of the SUV angle but because the Rappler story maliciously imputed that he is engaged in human trafficking and illegal drugs.

3. Keng sued for cyberlibel in OCTOBER 2017, or 5 years after the original story was posted. There was no cyberlibel law yet when the story came out IN MAY 2012. The Cyber Libel Law came in effect SEPTEMBER 2012.

4. However, instead of heeding the request of Keng to take down the story, Rappler posted an update on the same story in FEBRUARY 2014, when the cyberlibel law was already in effect.

5. Last January 10, the DOJ found probable cause against Maria Ressa, reporter/researcher Reynaldo Santos Jr. and Rappler for cyberlibel.

6. The DOJ rejected the motion of Ressa’s camp to dismiss the charge based on their argument that the filing was beyond the one year prescription period. The DOJ said that under the cyberlibel law, there is no 1 Year prescription period indicated.

7. Judge Rainelda Estacio-Montesa issued a warrant of arrest dated February 12, 2019, TUESDAY. 8. Ressa had the whole day of Wednesday, Feb13, 2019 to post bail. But she did not do so, and instead, invited media people to her office prior to the arrival of the NBI personnel who were to serve the WOA.

I hope before someone goes to your wall and make comments about your stand, nagbasa din sila. We can have different opinions pero the facts remain. If sa tingin nila harrassment yan kay Ressa, ok fine. Basta dapat alam nila na ni hindi nga media company ang Rappler as per SEC. And that is a fact. Please Copy and paste or SHARE para mabasa sa mga bobong may alam kuno at nananawagan ng hustisya.
